New edition of País de Dragones

Ediciones Norma has just published the first Colombian edition of the storybook País de dragones, aimed to audiences of all ages.

Taking the myth of the dragon as a starting point, the stories adopt the tone of medieval legends and contain cultural aspects of the myth that serve to reflect on various facets of civilization. The reader will find dragons from Asia, Europe, Africa, pre-Columbian America, and combinations of all of them in their interaction with human beings and legends from other latitudes, including references to universal archetypal figures such as Don Quixote and Quetzalcoatl.

This book was awarded the National Prize for Children's and Young People's Literature "The Golden Age" in Cuba, in 1989. However, it was never published there because a few months after the award the author emigrated to settle in the United States, and the Cuban government prohibited its publication.

The work had editions in Venezuela and Spain, sold out years ago. Now Norma-Colombia rescues it, accompanied with the illustrations by Colombian artist Henry González, which add a new perspective to these stories of sustained validity three decades after that award.
